How We Work

Our Programs

Here is an overview of how we positively impact our communities.

Guide Right

Guide Right is a longstanding initiative and hallmark of Kappa Alpha Psi. It is one of many national initiatives aimed towards serving the community. Specifically designed for the educational and occupational guidance of youth, Guide Right is primarily inspirational and informational in nature. It is one of a cadre of programs through which The Eta Sigma Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi serves the community.

The Eta Sigma Chapter Guide Right program is organized through Jackson Via Elementary School in Charlottesville, VA. We work with students from grades 2nd to 5th. The goal of Guide Right is to set students on the right track towards college matriculation through tutoring and mentoring. When we are with the students, we strive to help them develop a passion for learning that will hopefully follow them throughout their academic career.

Kappa League

The Kappa Leadership & Development League (Kappa League) is designed to aid young men of high school age to grow and develop their leadership talents in every phase of human endeavor. Kappa League provides both challenging and rewarding experiences to enhance students’ lives. Since the fundamental purpose of Kappa Alpha Psi is ACHIEVEMENT, it’s therefore the fraternity’s primary purpose to help these young men set high goals fro themselves and give them the tools to reach these goals.

Kappa League is focused on training young men of color to be leaders in everything that they do. The target age range for Kappa League is 6th-12th graders. The Eta Sigma Chapter Kappa League program at Albemarle High School focuses on high school Juniors and Seniors. The Chapter’s goal is to keep these students on the right track towards success and to be positive role models for them. In past years, we have done a great job of helping to mentor these young men, creating open dialogues with them, and serving as positive role models. The goal of these discussions is to give these young men the tools to overcome some of the challenges that they will face throughout their lives.

SILHOUETTES of KAPPA ALPHA PSI

The Organization, formerly known as National Silhouettes came into existence because of a need. Many wives accompanied their husbands to the Grand Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi and found themselves alone and in need of activities to fill their time. Later, the Kappas asked their wives to act as hostesses and plan activities for visiting wives and children. Many such groups remained together and organized permanent groups, calling themselves "Kappa Wives" or Kappa Alpha Psi Silhouettes".
